noah fence but let’s play minecraft - episode 236 - voyage of the dumb treaders is the best episode of minecraft in existence and here’s why:
they have one goal: get the map they need from a village cartographer so that they can find the newly added minecraft mansions… sounds easy as hell
thirty minutes pass by with no one but gavin actually collecting the sugarcane needed to make paper (for the map) and gavin gets mingy about it while geoff sits in a hole staring at the cartographer
ryan accidentally teleports geoff out of his Hole™ so geoff throws a fit about it until ryan spawns him back into the village and michael challenges the validity of having geoff sit in a hole with the cartographer while everyone is out working and gavin comes to geoff’s defense even tho we all know geoff should leave the Hole™
everyone agrees that creepers can’t blow you up in the water but then a creeper blows gavin up in the water
the cartographer takes the thirty-three sheets of paper in exchange for a single emerald and not the map they were looking for and everyone loses their minds for ten seconds
apparently they need forty-six emeralds in order to get the map and magically sixteen hours pass as they scour for resources to get forty-six emeralds… even more magically michael was standing in the same spot the whole sixteen hours and yet they still managed to get the forty-six emeralds needed… magically
turns out they didn’t need to do any of that and could have scrolled right on the cartographer’s menu and found that the cartographer only actually needs twenty-three emeralds and a compass but ryan doesn’t tell anyone that because ryan is smart
they get the map they spent forty minutes trying to get
it’s confusing
ryan walks straight into a hole that’s filled with lava, teleports jack into the middle of nowhere and leaves him there, is punched into the lava by gavin after he had just gotten back to the lava hole to get his things, and then he teleports gavin right above the lava and gavin dies the same fiery death he did and vengeance is ryan’s
they roughly follow the direction they think they need to go based on the map which leads them to the water where they pair up in boats
no one has a compass but for some reason jeremy is sure ryan has one… this gives ryan an idea
ryan’s first mistake was making a compass

this derails the whole trip as they all flock towards the llamas and try to tame them
the baby llamas elect michael to be their new dad
they put a chest straight through the stomach of michael’s llama (who michael names lorenzo) and stick some wood in it for whatever reason
llamas spit on jack and jeremy for ten consecutive hours
they lead the llamas up a cliff where they find a valley of lamas and they’re collectively elected as the six llama kings

I love how in the homestuck fandom, “stuck” has become a synonymous suffix for ‘AU’. Want an au that takes place in college? collegestuck. Want an au that’s sad and angsty? sadstuck. Want an AU that takes place in the harry potter universe? potterstuck. Just add ’-stuck’ at the end and you got yourself an AU™
honestly it’s the hardest thing not to drag the terminology into other fandoms, because —stuck is much more efficient a labeling convention.
‘au’ just indicates something about the fanfic is different from canon, and it could be anything from a minor plot deviation to a genderswap to a wild west retelling to a crossover. so you have to actually use a couple words or even a whole phrase. ‘everyone’s at hogwarts AU’, ‘biker gang AU’, ‘abducted by aliens AU’, ‘AU from this canon event where that character made another decision’. it’s clumsy.
conversely, the ‘stuck suffix indicates that something major about the setting or characters has been changed, with the prefix indicating what, such as collegestuck, humanstuck, demonstuck, knightstuck, treckstuck. the exceptions that sort of prove the rule are ‘stucks that indicate a genre shift such as sadstuck and horrorstuck. you get a short, snappy compound term that conveys the basic premise of your story and off you go.
it really is awfully useful, as are the troll romance quadrants. if i say “i ship pidge and hunk pale” you know i don’t just mean they’re friends, i mean they’re in a platonic but extremely close relationship involving lots of supportiveness and squishy bro feels. it’s hard to write a story about ‘these two are friends’ because like… so what? everyone’s got a dozen friends. but it’s easy to write a story about a pale ship, because that is fraught with motherfuckin feels.
People can say what they like about the Homestuck fandom (and they will probably be right lbr) but it has yielded a number of really CHOICE concepts for transformative works that I have never seen the like of in any other fandom.
my friend marth needs to escape from her abusive house, her parents have begun trying to send her to a muslim conversion therapist whose tactics involve sexual harassment, embarrassment, and manipulation to try and force her into not identifying as a trans girl.
shes only 16 years old and her parents pulled her out of her school 2 years ago when she came out and have secluded her from all of her friends, dont let her leave the house, and has been trapped there ever since with no way of contacting anyone except through her ds.
